Autism service dogs are specially trained dogs that help people with autism manage their disability and live more independently. They can help with anxiety, social interactions, and daily living skills.

  • What they do:

    • Reduce anxiety

Autism service dogs can help reduce anxiety during medical visits, school, shopping, and travel. They can also help de-escalate emotional meltdowns.

    • Improve social interactions

Autism service dogs can help improve social interactions and relationships. They can also help their handlers expand their verbal and nonverbal communication.

    • Assist with daily living skills

Autism service dogs can help with dressing, undressing, and carrying items.

    • Provide grounding

Autism service dogs can provide grounding or sensory input to decrease stress and anxiety.

Our HSD Autism Paws Program is dedicated to offering the highest quality purpose-bred dogs, meticulously selected for health and temperament. These service dogs are trained to meet the unique needs of people with autism, adhering to all requirements set forth by the ADA.

There is no charge for participation in our Autism Paws Program.

This initiative pairs a started Service Puppy with a person affected by Autism. This program empowers people to train their service dogs while equipping both members of the team with life-changing skills.
