Our Breeding Program
At Hope Service Dogs, our breeding program prioritizes producing top-quality Golden Retrievers with exceptional health, temperament, and trainability.
We exceed the breed club's recommendations for health testing. Each dog in our breeding program undergoes rigorous evaluations, including:
Hip and Elbow Certifications: All breeding dogs are certified free of hip and elbow dysplasia by the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals), PennHIP, or FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale).
Ophthalmological Exams: Their eyes are examined and certified annually by licensed canine ophthalmologists.
Cardiac Clearances: We ensure that all dogs receive heart evaluations from licensed canine cardiologists to rule out any heart issues.
Additionally, we conduct genetic screenings for the parents, testing for over 175 genetic mutations linked to various diseases. This thorough approach ensures that we breed dogs with the best chance for health and well-being.
And that’s just the beginning of our commitment to excellence!
LLifetime Genetic Disorder Health Guarantee
At Hope Service Dogs, we stand behind the health and well-being of our puppies. All parent dogs undergo extensive genetic testing for over 175 mutations associated with various genetic diseases. We guarantee that your puppy will be clear of or a carrier for these conditions, and will not test affected for any of the following:
Golden Retriever Progressive Retinal Atrophy 1 (GR-PRA1)
Golden Retriever Progressive Retinal Atrophy 2 (GR-PRA2)
Ichthyosis 1
Ichthyosis 2
Progressive Retinal Atrophy, prcd
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis
Procedure for Affected Results
In the unlikely event that your puppy is tested and found to be affected by a genetic condition, the following steps will apply:
Retesting Requirement: You must have the puppy retested by your veterinarian at your own expense, using the genetic testing company of our choice.
Final Determination: If the second test comes back as unaffected, that result will be the final determination. If it is confirmed as affected, we will offer a replacement puppy.
Replacement Options:
You may keep your affected puppy and receive an 8-week old replacement puppy from a future litter (breed and gender at our discretion) after providing documentation of spaying/neutering your puppy within 18 months.
Alternatively, you may return your affected puppy and receive one replacement 8-week old puppy from a future litter, provided the return occurs within 7 calendar days of the confirmed affected test result.
Important Notes
Documentation: Proof of spay/neuter must be provided to us within 18 months; otherwise, no replacement puppy will be offered.
Timeframe: We have 12 months from receiving your spay/neuter documentation to provide a replacement puppy.
Costs: We will not be responsible for any travel or shipping costs associated with either replacement option. Additionally, Hope Service Dogs, Inc. will not cover any veterinary or medical bills incurred.
Our commitment to rigorous health and genetic testing reflects our dedication to improving the breed and ensuring the best possible outcomes for our puppies.
