HSD Volunteers with service dogs in training at universal studios

Volunteer With Hope Service Dogs

Give Your Time. Change a Life.

It takes a community to raise and train a service dog.

At Hope Service Dogs, volunteers play an important role in helping us care for our dogs, support our programs, and advance our mission.

Whether you have experience with dogs or simply have time and a willingness to help, there may be a place for you at HSD.

How Volunteers Help

Volunteer opportunities can include:

Working With the Dogs

Help with appropriate puppy and dog activities, enrichment, socialization, handling, and training support.

Events & Outreach

Help HSD at community events, fundraisers, educational events, and other activities.

Fundraising

Help raise awareness and financial support for our programs.

Facility & Maintenance

Assist with projects, cleaning, organization, construction, landscaping, and other practical needs.

Administrative & Special Projects

Put your professional skills and talents to work helping HSD behind the scenes.

Not every volunteer opportunity involves dogs.

Sometimes the best way to help the dogs is to help the organization that cares for them.

What We Look For

We value volunteers who are:

  • Reliable

  • Respectful

  • Willing to learn

  • Comfortable following HSD policies and training instructions

  • Committed to the welfare of our dogs

  • Able to work as part of a team

Previous dog-training experience is not required.

We'll help you understand what is expected for the opportunity you're volunteering for.

Volunteering With Dogs

Working directly with service dogs and puppies is a privilege—and a responsibility.

Dogs in training need consistency.

Volunteers working with the dogs must follow HSD's instructions regarding handling, training, socialization, equipment, and interactions with the dogs.

The dog's welfare and training always come first.

Before You Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities vary based on HSD's current needs.

Some opportunities may require additional training, orientation, background checks, or other requirements depending on the work involved.

Please do not assume that submitting an application guarantees a volunteer position or access to the dogs.

We'll contact you if we have an opportunity that matches your skills and our current needs.
